About RAFWARMA

The Royal Air Force Walking and Road Marching Association (RAFWARMA) was formed on 1 April 1980.  Its aim is to promote the sport of walking - of all types - within the Royal Air Force and its sister services.  On 2 April 1980, as a result of an application by the Executive Committee of RAF WARMA, the Association was granted "Official Recognition" by the RAF Sports Board.  Although no financial support goes with this, it does mean that members of the Association can hold their head up high when asking for time off to pursue their sport.  It remains a long term aim to get Walking and Road Marching recognised as a sport by the Treasury.

RAFWARMA circulates information to members about Walking and Road Marching events, in the UK and abroad.   The Association has already organised RAF entries into numerous events overseas and plans to continue this in the future.  RAFWARMA organises its own Two Day March every April, a "Winter Walk" in October and an Annual Dinner.

RAFWARMA welcomes both serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces, Cadet Forces and Civilians.  It caters for both the "serious" road marcher and those interested in the more fun type events.

Advantages of membership are many fold.  Members receive an annual BWF Events Calendar which details all BWF(IVV) registered walking events (plus cycle and swimming events) within the United Kingdom.  On the financial side, membership reduces the cost of entry into the Annual Two Day March, Winter Walk and the purchase of RAFWARMA memorabilia.  If a member, or affiliated club member,  takes part in a RAFWARMA sponsored event (Overseas) they may also receive a subsidy.
